Saas-Almagell is the most southerly village in the Saas Valley and is situated at 1600 metres above sea level. It is a family-friendly resort with an idyllic atmosphere that owes its degree of fame not least to three ski stars: Pirmin, Heidi and Silvan Zurbriggen. The chair lift takes you to Furggstalden (1900 m) and on to Heidbodme (2400 m).
Saas-Almagell in winter
Would you like to ski where the ski star Pirmin Zurbriggen made his first timid attempts at sliding on the snow? If so, the family-friendly ski area of Furggstalden-Heidbodme with guaranteed snow is the right place for you. You can speed down the 3 km-long sledging trail, take a romantic winter hike on groomed paths or use the 26 km-long Saas Valley cross-country skiing trail.
You can skate or enjoy a game of curling at the ice rink.
Just a brief comment concerning the après-ski: good things come in small packages!
Saas-Almagell in summer
With its beautiful side valleys, Saas-Almagell has a wide and varied network of hiking paths.
The Mattmark dam with its easy, virtually flat circular trail is a favourite destination. The area, which is steeped in history, is a superb place for hiking, with trails such as the paths over the Monte-Moro pass or the Antrona pass to Italy, which were used by the ancient Romans, the Walser, and to no lesser extent, smugglers.
The oldest hamlet still in existence in Saas-Almagell is situated at Furggstalden. You will find old Valais houses in their original state here. Almagelleralp is also a place worth visiting - whether you take the classic high-altitude trail or the rather more action-packed alternative of the Almagellerhorn adventure trail.
